Build, Test, Explain
Grade 7 is intentionally hands-on. Students are expected to build, measure, test, revise, document, and explain.
What students explore
- Complex literary, scientific, and technical texts
- Procedural writing and evidence-supported presentations
- Proportional relationships, introductory algebra, probability, and risk
- Repeatable experiments, source comparison, meal planning, tools, coding, and practical construction
Example experiences
- Conduct a repeatable lab and document sources of error.
- Write instructions another student must successfully follow.
- Prepare several nutritious meals within a fixed budget.
- Create a short program using variables and conditional logic.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS
- 7.1.2.1 Read complex literary, scientific, and technical texts with comprehension.
- 7.1.3.1 Write procedural instructions another person can successfully follow.
- 7.1.4.1 Deliver a prepared presentation supported by evidence or demonstration.
- 7.2.2.1 Solve proportional relationships and introductory algebraic equations.
- 7.2.4.1 Use probability to estimate likelihood and risk.
- 7.3.1.1 Conduct repeatable experiments and evaluate sources of error.
- 7.4.2.1 Evaluate whether evidence actually supports a stated conclusion.
- 7.4.3.1 Locate and compare multiple sources addressing the same factual question.
- 7.6.2.1 Plan several nutritious meals within a defined budget.
- 7.7.4.1 Create a functioning computer program using variables, conditions, and repetition.
