Foundations of Adult Thinking

Grade 9 establishes the intellectual tools students will use throughout high school and adult life: complex reading, clear writing, algebraic reasoning, physical science, formal logic, research, and disciplined evaluation of information.

What students explore

  • Grammar, research, explanatory and analytical writing, literature, technical reading, presentations, and professional communication
  • Algebra, functions, rates, percentages, graphs, probability, measurement, and modeling
  • Motion, energy, matter, chemical change, laboratory investigation, and engineering applications
  • Premises, conclusions, deduction, induction, validity, evidence, source reliability, rhetoric, statistics, advertising, algorithms, and digital manipulation

Example experiences

  • Analyze a public claim by separating premises, evidence, and conclusion.
  • Write a professional memo explaining a technical issue.
  • Design and run a physical-science investigation.
  • Compare multiple sources on a disputed factual question.
