GRADE 12 • PREPARE FOR INDEPENDENCE

Independent Adult Life

Senior year culminates in genuine independence. Grade 12 integrates financial, household, health, employment, business, and civic knowledge so students leave school prepared to manage ordinary adult responsibilities.

What students explore

  • Housing, leases, mortgages, property taxes, utilities, and insurance
  • Vehicles, financing, depreciation, maintenance, employment, compensation, benefits, retirement, and healthcare
  • Meal planning, groceries, cooking, food safety, laundry, cleaning, utilities, tools, and routine household maintenance
  • CPR, first aid, resumes, interviews, management, entrepreneurship, business fundamentals, and real public records

Local Government Laboratory

Students work with real public records and answer practical questions: Who has authority? What is proposed? What law controls the decision? What does it cost? Who pays? What happens next?

Every student also completes the Run Your Life capstone.

TECHNICAL STANDARDS

  • 12.6.3.1 Identify major financial obligations in a consumer contract.
  • 12.6.3.2 Compare renting and purchasing housing using realistic costs.
  • 12.6.5.1 Develop a long-term financial plan including emergency savings and retirement.
  • 12.6.2.1 Plan and prepare nutritionally balanced meals within a fixed budget.
  • 12.6.2.2 Demonstrate routine household maintenance tasks safely.
  • 12.8.4.1 Demonstrate appropriate first-aid responses to common emergencies.
  • 12.7.5.1 Prepare a professional resume and complete a simulated interview.
  • 12.5.3.1 Analyze an actual local-government action from proposal through final authority.

Graduation mastery check

A graduate should be able to read, write, calculate, reason, research, earn, manage money, maintain a household, manage health, navigate government, use tools and technology, and continue learning independently.
