GRADE 2 • DISCOVER & MASTER
How Does That Work?
Grade 2 builds a habit that matters for the rest of a student’s education: complicated things can be understood by examining their parts.
What students explore
- Humorous chapter books, adventure, folktales, nature writing, inventors, and explorers
- Wheels, levers, ramps, bridges, clocks, bicycles, gears, and simple machines
- Habitats, weather, maps, continents, oceans, states, and Minnesota
- Addition/subtraction fluency, multiplication as groups and arrays, time, and money
Example experiences
- Build and test a ramp for distance or speed.
- Take apart a safe simple object and explain its parts.
- Create a labeled map of Minnesota and surrounding states.
- Plan a small pretend purchase using coins and bills.
